Multi-fit motors
We are the leading UK supplier to trade engineers of Multi Fit fan motors. They are predominantly used in refrigeration display cabinets. We sell to UK engineers over 100,000 multifit motors annually. The motors are individually boxed completed with all nuts, bolts, washers and a spare fan hub. This makes them perfect for a refrigeration engineers van stock. Multi-fits (also known as universal refrigeration motors) are by the nature of their a multiple fixing motor. They can be mounted on tapped holes on the front or rear motor casing, or on either of the two side bolts or the four case bolts. These motors are either fixed to a metal or plastic ring (which make them a ring mount motor) or a metal grid (for finger protection which then make them a grid mount motor) or finally on a pedestal bracket which make them a pedestal fan.
Multi fit motors are a square bodied design measuring 84mm square. They are made with either a high quality sleeve bearing or our most popular range of dual ball bearings. A ball bearing enables a 10,000 longer lifespan of the motor. A ball bearing multi-fit motor has a few other advantages alongside the longer lifespan as they can be mounted vertically, something a sleeve bearing cannot do or it will fail prematurely. Further motor a ball bearing multifit fan motor doesn’t have problems with dust ingress like a sleeve bearing motor can.
MultiFit motors come in seven sizes of power output 5W, 7W, 10W, 16W, 18W, 25W and 34W except our premium ball bearing range where we have a 20W version. These motors are specifically designed to drive a range of fan blades which go up in diameter and degrees of pitch, the blade diameters are 154mm, 165mm, 172mm, 200mm, 230mm, 254mm & 300mm, in both sucking and blowing airflow directions.
A multi-fit fan motor is a shaded pole motor, which means they by the nature of their construction are an inefficient design for energy consumption. For example a motor which uses 38watts input only results in 10watts of useful power. The resulting waste of 28watts is lost to heat and noise. However they are a very cheap motor and considered a “throw away” motor as a result. The motors are generally IP42 or IP44 and are rated continuously air over motor. Their insulation rating of class B meaning they can operate -40 to +60.
There are many different manufactures of sleeve bearing multifit motors but in the UK we are the only true source of a dual ball bearing multifit motor, many others lack the full range of fixing options. Whilst we offer both a sleeve and a ball bearing universal fridge motor it is our belief that the extra cost of a ball bearing far outweighs any potential failures that result for a sleeve bearing being used.
